this month

I have a half page in Alternative Press this month for a shoot I did back in March for my friends in Gloria. Thanks to Adam Elmakias for the scan:

It’s in the Recommends section, so go pick it up and check them out! (myspace.com/gloria)

Ty Mayes

Ty contacted me back in February to set up a session for his press kit. He’s a super nice guy with a ton of ambition and a lot of heart. I’m so happy for him and stoked to hear what he might produce in the months to come. We spent two different days working with each other, shooting in the Grand Hotel in Downtown Minneapolis and then at an art building just south of there, both of which turned out to be more versatile than I had previously thought. Thanks so much to my friend Jules for helping me out, holding my lighting, and simply keeping me company! Also thanks to Kim Nevins from the hotel for helping me coordinate everything! Check out their site, some of the classiest rooms in downtown Minneapolis: Grand Hotel Minneapolis

Thanks again everyone for your comments, the feedback is great!

Gene

This is Gene, he’s also a local minneapolis photographer and he’s working on designing some things for me. he also recently got engaged and I’m so happy or him.

Sorry for the lack of updates everyone, I’ve been catching up on everything since being done with my last architecture project. I’ve since had plenty to work on since the start of april, so I’m excited for what’s ahead. I’ve been working on my last project in architecture this semester, prepping for all my final projects and exams, and finishing the design and layout my bs portfolio which is due on the 15th (I hope I get accepted!), so enough has been happening in regards to that. Just to prove how intense it’s been, check this: my friend John. Four people in my architecture studio accidentally cut themselves while making models this semester. one I ended up driving to the hospital at 3am, and another managed to cut off the tip of her pointer finger.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend, I know I am. The weather here has been incredible and I’ve been able to spend more time with my girl which is a huge bonus considering our schedules!

AVU 2.0

Here are the final images from my shoot with A Verse Unsung. All of them should be in the upcoming story and ads in Alt. Press for Photofinish Records, along with their labelmates 3OH!3 and Envy On The Coast. They haven’t put up the photos yet, but check them out here: http://myspace.com/averseunsung

I just finished up my final week of architecture project three, which all post here soon. I have some studio images of my final model, but not enough good ones, so I’ll post a final summary and outline of the work hopefully in the next few days. It was a crazy week where I managed to survive two all-nighters and endless hours in the studio finishing up my models, but it was great nonetheless.

The new bike is finally all put together after a new set of handle bars and bottom-bracket, now all that is needed is a possible paint job to make it completely white, but I’m still debating it. The Specialized frame rides super smooth considering it’s an older track frame, and I think the Soma drops complete the look. Thanks to my friend Austen for giving me the frame!

Thank you all who are new to my blog, I appreciate you checking out my work and all the feedback! Don’t be shy to email me with questions or leave a comment.

…from California.

Due to the response from my pictures from California, I’m going to post a few more in the next few weeks, there are thousands! Hope you all enjoy.

AVU

Just wrapped up another crazy week and another awesome shoot. All of these portaits were shot for Atlantic/Photofinish Records for a band called A Verse Unsung. I’ll be releasing the images of the band in the next few days after the announcement of their signing. I shot these guys last year but was excited to see and talk to them again, especially after their long tours through the middle east (yeah, that middle east) and east coast. It was a ton of fun working with the limited amount of time we had and especially the location we shot at. These and others should be featured in the coming weeks in Alt. Press and on Photofinish Records’ website, I’m so stoked with how they turned out.

myspace.com/averseunsung - take a listen to “resolve the fight” and “six strings” especially

I’ll be updating with a bigger post later, but I’m in the middle of finishing up one of my last big architecture projects for the semester. I’m running on hardly any sleep, but the end is near!

Do you ever have those weeks where you just can’t believe it actually went by without noticing? Mine was one of those weeks, and honestly, the weekends over tomorrow already. I’m still hard at work in the architecture studio, spending countless hours and sleepless nights (two this week) trying to finish my models. here are some images from the last few weeks, I’ll post more of the completed project in a couple weeks.

Only one month left until the semester is over, but I’m stoked to see what will be coming the coming weeks.

hope everyone’s week was good, enjoy the last part of the weekend

Here are more from my trip to California. Funny to notice how Ben is in all of these images, when my other friend Austen was there the whole time. I’ll only be posting a few more, but thought I’d share some of my favorites for now. Here’s a recap of the trip:

Ben and I flew to San Francisco, after spending an arm and a leg to get the bikes through check-in. Because the bikes are super light and minimal, it was easy to reconstruct the bikes outside of SFO in the BART station once we flew in. We biked around the city for the afternoon, then made our way with the train across the bay to Walnut Creek where Austen works. We spent nights at his house out in the garage talking photo and bike things and biking around his awesome (and hilly) neighborhood. We spent one whole day in the city mashing up and down hills, seeing Austen hit a car and fly over the hood, eating lunch in the park, and getting some wicked views until about 1am. The last few days we spent taking apart and destroying my silver frame because the seatpost decided to become one with the frame (click here to view some of the images). ahhhh!

since we weren’t able to remove the seatpost with ammonia, liquid wrench, etc, twisting it out was last resort…but it didn’t work and actually ripped the top off. The amazing pasrt of the story though, is that Austen is letting me borrow an old Specialized frame until I buy a new one. here’s how it looks. should be sick.

Ben and I spent the last day hanging out, enjoying the weather, and relaxing. We also drove over to the nw coast and hit up muir beach. It was foggy and raining, nothing short of what I expected, but awesome and epic nonetheless.

The trip was a success, and the best part about it ending, was that we came home to 50 degree temperatures!

Quick little recap, and like I said, I’ll be posting some more images soon (sadly none of Austen hitting the car!) Since then I’ve been just catching up on work, spending some much needed time with Diana, and also visiting my parents. From now until May I’ll devoting about 75% of my time in the architecture studio, and the remaining percentage working with new clients, editing, spending time with my girl, and hopefully some sleeping.

Extremely excited for the coming months, so much is in store.

One little tidbit of info: I found out my German “brother” (I was an exchange student in high school) will be coming to stay with me and my family again in May, which I can’t wait for. I haven’t seen him since last year when I was there, should be interesting to finally spend some more time with him again.

Preview from my shoot with Ty Mayes, an actor/musician who I worked with a few weeks ago. More soon, but I wanted to give a preview for them.
